The wrong OpenVPN architecture has been included in the installers which affect 32 bit systems of Windows. We are working on a fix that will be pushed as soon as possible. Until then we will revert back to version 1.1.6. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Today we have released an updated OVPN client with version number 1.1.7. This is one of the larger updates we've deployed since the release of the client, but in spite of this most users won't necessarily notice any obvious differences. Simply put, the update contains a new installation framework (QTInstaller) instead of the old one (WIX Installer). The update has been in the pipeline for a long time and as we received reports of a growing number of installation issues we decided to migrate sooner than planned. However, there are several reasons and benefits that we plan to use the new framework for going forward. This includes, among other things, seamless updates through the client without having to interact with the website. The new framework also has an array of functionality that allows for better scalability which we need as our user base is growing.

The updates in short:

  • Migration from WIX installer to QTInstaller framework.
  • Possibility to install a new client on top of an old installation.
  • Allowing handling of updates for future versions of the client.
  • Installing OpenVPN and Microsoft VS Runtime Libraries(Windows) that are dependencies for the client.
  • Migrated the client to our new dedicated DNS addresses.
