This is the monthly transparency report for January 2018. OVPN had two unplanned service interruptionsand two planned service interruptions during the month of January.

Summary

Throughout the month of January, our VPN servers had an uptime of over 99.5%. In total, the OVPN servers encrypted and anonymized 3172 TB of data.

During the month of January, we did not receive any requests from authorities. To date, we have never given out any customer data to third parties.

Below are the traffic and uptime statistics from our current datacenters.

Analysis

Our datacenter in Malmö has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. During the month of January, the traffic load amounted to 3000 Mbit/s on average. During the month of December, we added an additional 3 servers to the Malmö datacenter, bringing the total upp to 7.

The highest traffic spike was 6790 Mbit/s, which represents 67.9% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 5310 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 53.1% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 1.0 PB, meaning 1000 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Malmö.

The Malmö datacenter had an uptime of over 99.5% during the month of January.

Analysis

Our datacenter in Stockholm has a maximum capacity of 20 Gbit/s. During the month of January, the traffic load amounted to 5370 Mbit/s on average. On January 31, we added an additional 8 servers to the Stockholm datacenter, bringing the total up to 20 servers.

The largest recorded traffic spike was 10270 Mbit/s, which represents 51.4% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 8100 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 40.5% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 1.8 PB, meaning 1800 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Stockholm.

The Stockholm datacenter had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of January.

Our datacenter in Frankfurt has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, during the month of January, the traffic load amounted to 238.6 Mbit/s on average.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 1070 Mbit/s, which represents 35.7% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 428.9 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 14.3% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 80.1 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized in the Frankfurt datacenter.

Frankfurt had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of January.

We deployed our servers in Los Angeles in August 2017, making January the sixth month the servers have been running. The Los Angeles datacenter has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 35.7 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 199.8 Mbit/s, which represents 6.7% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 72.9 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 2.4% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 12.0 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the Los Angeles datacenter.

We deployed our servers in Miami in August 2017, making January the sixth month the servers have been running. The Miami datacenter has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 22.6 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 158.8 Mbit/s, which represents 5.3% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 46.1 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 1.5% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 7.6 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the Miami datacenter.

We deployed our servers in Oslo in August 2017 making January the sixth month the servers have been running. The Oslo datacenter has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 452.6 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 1320 Mbit/s, which represents 44.0% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 815.3 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 27.2% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 151.9 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the Oslo datacenter.

We deployed our servers in London in January 2018 making January the first month the servers have been running. The London datacenter has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 26.9 Mbit/s on average in January.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 187.4 Mbit/s, which represents 6.2% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 69.0 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 2.3% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 1.8 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the London datacenter.
