This is the monthly transparency report for August 2017. OVPN had two unplanned service interruptions and two planned service interruptions during the month of August.

Summary

Throughout the month of August, our VPN servers had an uptime of over 99.5%. In total, the OVPN servers encrypted and anonymized 2349.5 TB of data, which is 192 TB more than July which holds the previous record.

During the month of August, we did not receive any requests from authorities. To date, we have never given out any customer data to third parties.

Below are the traffic and uptime statistics from our current data centers.

Analysis

Our data center in Malmö has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. During the month of August, the traffic load amounted to 1280 Mbit/s on average.

The highest traffic spike was 2990 Mbit/s, which represents 29.9% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 2150 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 21.5% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 430.7 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Malmö.

The Malmö data center had an uptime of over 99.5% during the month of August.

Analysis

In October 2016, OVPN upgraded its capacity in Stockholm from 10Gbit/s to 20Gbit/s. During the month of August, the average the traffic load was 5070 Mbit/s.

The largest recorded traffic spike was 7960 Mbit/s, which represents 39.8% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 6990 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 35.0% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 1.70 PB, meaning 1700 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Stockholm.

The Stockholm data center had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of August.

Our data center in Frankfurt has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. However, during the month of August, the traffic load amounted to 240.6 Mbit/s on average.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 1350 Mbit/s, which represents 13.5% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 398.6 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 4.0% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 80.8 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized in the Frankfurt data center.

Frankfurt had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of August.

We deployed our servers in Amsterdam in December 2016, making August the ninth month the servers have been running. The Amsterdam data center has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 237.3 Mbit/s on average in August.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 1130 Mbit/s, which represents 37.7% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 411.1 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 13.7% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 79.7 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized in the Amsterdam data center.

We deployed our servers in Toronto in December 2016, making August the ninth month the servers have been running. The Toronto data center has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 77.5 Mbit/s on average in August.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 909.9 Mbit/s, which represents 30.3% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 134.6 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 4.5% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 26.0 TB of traffic was encrypted and anonymized in the Toronto data center.
