Currently, every VPN server that we operate can also be used as a DNS server. This functionality will be removed on December 13th after which they are not needed anymore as we’ve deployed dedicated DNS servers for this purpose.
By removing the DNS functionality for the VPN servers, we decrease the risk of DDoS attacks, a few of which we have experienced in the last couple of months.
Make sure you are using OVPN’s new DNS servers in order to prevent any service downtime.
