OVPN donates to support WireGuard®

David Wibergh, about Announcements

WireGuard is an open source VPN protocol developed by a team of developers lead by Jason A. Donenfeld. OVPN implemented WireGuard in February and strongly believe in the success of the protocol. With that said, there are some differences between OpenVPN and WireGuard, and we have implemented several changes and safeguards to guarantee the integrity of our customers when they connect with the WireGuard protocol. Our plans are to integrate WireGuard into our client as well as develop a mobile client using the WireGuard protocol.

Since WireGuard is open source and don't have any licensing fees, they do not have a source of income. This means that Jason and  the other WireGuard developers need financial help in order to keep working on WireGuard.

For that reason, OVPN have donated €10 000 to the WireGuard project to help them develop WireGuard and make necessary improvements to the software so that it can keep the high security and standard we have come to expect.
