Desktop client 2.21.1: Important update for macOS 27

If you use OVPN on a Mac with Apple Silicon and have upgraded to macOS 27, the built-in updater may not work: when you try to update, the app closes, and nothing is installed. Please download the new version through this blog post instead. You only need to do this once, and automatic updates will work again.

What’s going on?

Upgrading to macOS 27 removes Rosetta, Apple’s tool for running Intel software on Apple Silicon. The updater in older versions of OVPN for Mac was built for Intel, so it can’t start without Rosetta.

That’s why we recommend updating to Version 2.21.1. It’s a universal app that runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, so it doesn’t need Rosetta, and updates automatically once installed .

On an Intel Mac, or a Mac that still has Rosetta installed, the in-app update works as usual.

List of changes in v2.21.1

  • macOS: The app is now universal and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
  • macOS: Fixed an issue where the app closed instead of updating on macOS 27 on Apple Silicon.
  • All platforms: Improved connection reliability.

How can I update the desktop client?

  4. As soon as the installation finishes, the new version launches automatically. You’ll stay signed in.

Windows / Linux:

  3. Click Yes
  4. Wait for the installation to finish and enter your password if asked

  6. As soon as the installation finishes, the new version will launch automatically.
