This is the monthly transparency report for September 2017. OVPN had two unplanned service interruptions and two planned service interruptions during the month of September.

Summary

Throughout the month of September, our VPN servers had an uptime of over 99.5%. In total, the OVPN servers encrypted and anonymized 2376.6 TB of data, which is 27,1 TB more than August which holds the previous record.

During the month of September, we did not receive any requests from authorities. To date, we have never given out any customer data to third parties.

Below are the traffic and uptime statistics from our current data centers.

Analysis

Our data center in Malmö has a maximum capacity of 10 Gbit/s. During the month of September, the traffic load amounted to 1420 Mbit/s on average.

The highest traffic spike was 3390 Mbit/s, which represents 33.9% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 2390 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 23.9% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 460.4 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Malmö.

The Malmö data center had an uptime of over 99.5% during the month of September.

Analysis

In October 2016, OVPN upgraded its capacity in Stockholm from 10Gbit/s to 20Gbit/s. During the month of September, the average the traffic load was 5080 Mbit/s.

The largest recorded traffic spike was 8350 Mbit/s, which represents 41.8% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 7160 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 36.0% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 1.65 PB, meaning 1650 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized by the VPN servers in Stockholm.

The Stockholm data center had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of September.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 869.9 Mbit/s, which represents 8.7% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 406.6 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 4.1% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 77.4 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized in the Frankfurt data center.

Frankfurt had an uptime of 99.5% during the month of September.

We deployed our servers in Amsterdam in December 2016, making September the tenth month the servers have been running. The Amsterdam data center has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 246.8 Mbit/s on average in August.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 761.5 Mbit/s, which represents 25.4% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 426.9 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 14.2% of the maximum capacity.

In total, 20.2 TB of data was encrypted and anonymized in the Amsterdam data center.

We deployed our servers in Toronto in December 2016, making September the tenth month the servers have been running. The Toronto data center has a maximum capacity of 3 Gbit/s. However, the traffic load was only 70.5 Mbit/s on average in September.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 325.0 Mbit/s, which represents 10.8% of the maximum capacity. The 95th percentile landed on 110.9 Mbit/s, meaning that 95% of the time, the traffic load was below 3.7% of the maximum capacity.
