Transparency report: November 2014

One of OVPN’s goals is to be transparent. Because of this we decided to publish the traffic load and statistics for our servers each month.

Earlier we’ve summarized October, meaning that this is the second monthly report we publish.

As this report was posted late, we will provide you with the corresponding report for December in about a week.

Traffic Spikes (Mbit/s)

VPN01 - Summary of traffic spikes in November

Analysis

VPN01 encrypted and anonymized 28,230 GB (27.6 TB) of traffic in total.

The highest traffic spike was 557 Mbit/s at its highest, which is 54.4% of the maximum capacity.

The 95th percentile landed on 206 Mbit/s, which means that the traffic load was below 20.1% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

VPN01 had an uptime of 99.96% during November.

Analysis

VPN02 encrypted and anonymized 27,205 GB (2665 TB)* of traffic in total.

The traffic spike was 533 Mbit/s at its highest, which is 38.8% of the maximum capacity.

The 95th percentile landed on 216 Mbit/s, which means that the server load was below 38.8% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

Analysis

VPN03 encrypted and anonymized 32,398 GB (72 TB) of traffic in total.

The largest traffic spike recorded was 741 Mbit/s, which represents 52.0% of the maximum capacity, since we upgraded the network card on the server.

The 95th percentile landed on 235 Mbit/s, which means that the server load was below 16.5% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

Analysis

VPN04 encrypted and anonymized 31,561 GB (31.561 TB) of traffic in total.

The largest traffic spike recorded was ** 490 Mbit/s**, which is **34.4% of the maximum capacity.

The 95th percentile landed on 200 Mbit/s, which means that the server load was below 15.4% of the maximum capacity for 95% of the time.

VPN04 had an uptime of 99.9% during November. Including the planned maintenance, the total uptime was 99.69%.

WEB01 - Falun

We had some minor downtimes on WEB01 during November, which resulted in a total uptime of 99.81%, summing up to 82 minutes of downtime.

We had a few minor downtimes during November resulting in an uptime of 99.98% which sums up to a total downtime of 7 minutes.

As the downtimes were minor, they won't be visible in the graph.

Summary

We succeeded in keeping an uptime of at least 99.5% during November. It’s clear that we aren’t even close to our maximum capacity, which leaves room for more future customers.

In addition to providing a fast service, we also work on maintaining great physical security in the Stockholm data center. In March we will increase the physical security even more in Malmö, and will at the same time start offering our Multihop add-on.
